Food Product Feasibility Assessment

Before you spend real money developing a food product, you want to know one thing: can it actually be made, sold, and scaled the way you imagine? A Feasibility Assessment answers that. We look at your concept across the things that decide whether it works in the real world — technical, manufacturing, ingredient, regulatory, cost, and commercialization — and tell you where the risks are and what the path forward looks like, before you commit to full development.

Why start with feasibility

Most food products don't fail because the idea was bad. They fail because something downstream got missed — an ingredient that won't survive the process, a co-packer that can't run the format, a cost structure that never penciled out, a claim that wasn't legal. By the time those show up, you've often spent months and a lot of money.

A feasibility assessment finds those problems while they're still cheap to fix. It's the difference between designing a product you hope can be made and designing one you know can be made.

What we look at

We pressure-test your concept across the areas that actually determine whether it works:

Technical

Can the product be formulated to do what you want, and hold up the way it needs to?

Manufacturing

What process and equipment does it require, and what will it take to run at scale rather than on a bench?

Ingredients

Are the ingredients available, functional, affordable, and able to withstand the process?

Regulatory

Are your claims, labeling, and formulation compliant?

Cost

Does the product cost structure support a viable margin at the price you need to hit?

Commercialization

Can you find a co-manufacturer, meet a retailer's requirements, and get from concept to shelf?

What you get

A clear, honest assessment you can act on: where the real risks are, where the opportunities are, what's unknown and needs testing, and a recommended path forward — whether that's proceeding to development, adjusting the concept, or rethinking it before you spend more.

Who it's for

Founders and brands who have a product idea and want to know if it's real before investing in development. Mid-sized and larger companies who want an outside, experienced read on a concept's technical and commercial viability. Anyone who would rather find the problems now, on paper, than later, on a production line.

An example of how this thinking works

A snack brand came to us wanting to replace the corn in their product lines with a grain that was more nutritious and more distinctive. Working through the feasibility of different options, we identified sorghum, which solved the nutritional and uniqueness goals. But we also saw something they hadn't asked about: sorghum's sustainability story — it's drought-tolerant, water-efficient, and an ancient grain — opened a brand-positioning opportunity, not just an ingredient swap. That's what a good feasibility process does: it answers the question you asked, and surfaces the ones you didn't.
